Helping Little Paws Have A Better Tomorrow ![]()

Paws of Tomorrow is not a shelter. We are a rescue that works with shelters to help save urgent dogs on death row. ALL of the dogs on our site are either in our foster care or are being transferred to us and in need of foster home. Paws of Tomorrow DOES adopt out of state but you will only be able to meet your potential pet if you are willing to travel to its local foster home. Transport can be arranged to your home if you do not want to visit the pet before finalizing the adoption.
In order to adopt one of our lovely dogs/cats an adoption application is required. Our applications are located on the apps page of the website. You will not be considered until an application is received by us. There is an application fee to apply for our pets. This fee is $30 and if you are approved for adoption it is then applied to your adoption fee. If you are not approved, we will refund this fee to you. However, if at anytime you cancel your application, this fee is non-refundable. This is to insure that you are serious in looking for this pet. If you are interested in visiting one of our pets, we can arrange that after approving your application. All of our pets are in foster care (with the exception of urgent dogs), and we want to know a little about you before sending you to our volunteers home. Final approval may take as much as a week. Once we receive your application, we will contact your vet reference and arrange a phone interview with you. If approved, you will need to send the specified adoption funds for this dog via PayPal unless you are going to visit the pet before finalizing the adoption. Please look at the specific dog you are interested in for the adoption fee. These fees vary by the vetting required, transport, and shelter fees. These fees are non-negotiable. It is an "Adoption Fee" and is solely for the adoption of this animal. These adoption fees are considered donations. We try to fully vet each dog but this is not guaranteed by paying the adoption fee. Paws of Tomorrow cannot guarantee the temperament or health of any animals made available for adoption. We will never knowingly place a sick animal in a home. You will be required to sign an agreement stating that you will have the pet seen by a vet within 48 hours of adoption. This exam must include a full fecal test. You are responsible for ALL supplies needed for your new pet. You will need to have a crate, food, toys, and other pet needs available for your new pet. We want to assure the adoption process is a smooth, happy transition.
The dogs that are listed on our "Urgent Dogs" page are still in the shelter and need sponsorship to be pulled from the shelter. These are all dogs that we have temperament tested and feel are sweet dogs. Please let us know if you could foster or sponsor one of these dogs. Sponsoring a dog, gives it the ultimate gift, if you are unable to adopt. Sponsorship means "life" for these dogs. As soon as a dog is sponsored it is moved directly to safety. Most of them have limited time for finding a home. Our urgent dogs can also be adopted. Once we approve an application for them, we move them to our rescue and have them vetted prior to them going to their forever home.
Lastly and most important, we de-worm these animals but if they are adopted quickly they are likely to still have worms and will need to be treated by a vet again for this. Please be sure that you have a full fecal done at the animals first exam. These dogs come from horrible places and will need treated for worms MULTIPLE times. Worms seem to love shelters!! Tapeworm cannot be treated with our de-wormer and must be treated by a licensed veterinarian. Not all dogs will have tapeworm, as tapeworm is caused by a dog swallowing a flea that has ingested a tapeworm. But shelters are also known for having fleas, so you can see how this would be a factor. Tapeworm is not contagious and can only be transmitted by ingesting these fleas. We ALWAYS treat for fleas but again, these dogs will need monthly treatment for fleas. Another concern in rescued dogs is parasites. Parasites live in the intestines also and can be treated with antibiotics; however, it can cause death if not treated. Stress is one of the leading causes of parasites.
You must understand that in adopting a rescue, that they may have health issues. These dogs come from deplorable conditions and need to be vetted as soon as you receive them. You acknowledge and accept this responsibility by signing our contract. We insure that every dog is up to date on shots, given flea treatment, de-wormed twice, and given an overall health evaluation but they may have underlying health issues that we are unaware of. If the dog is in foster care for some time, they may receive additional vetting but some dogs move through our organization very quickly. We do our best to insure the health of each animal but sometimes we miss something.
All of our pets are spay/neutered unless they are too young or have a health issue that has prevented this. If your new pet is not 6 months old, it will not be spay/neutered prior to adoption and you are accepting responsibility for having this done by the age of 7 months. You MUST return documentation of this to us, including a copy of the vet bill, with 45 days of adoption or we will be forced to remove the dog from your possession. As part of your adoption fee when adopting a puppy, you are paying a refundable deposit of $75. This will be refunded to you when the spay/neuter paperwork is returned to us. And please be aware, that we WILL remove them from your home, if you do not comply with our policies. NO EXCEPTIONS!! Please know that this is the reason these dogs end up in a shelter in the beginning and we will not allow this to continue in this area. ALL DOGS AND CATS must be spay/neutered. If you do not agree to any of the above please do not adopt from our organization. We are trying to stop dogs from being euthanized in the US and cannot do this unless every dog is S/N that leaves the shelters. Just remember, "If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem."
Paws of Tomorrow provide transport of our animals to their forever home. We will adopt our loving pets to any area in the US. Please be aware that transport does require an extra charge. This charge is usually about $100-$150, depending on the size of dog and area it will be going to. This fee will be required to be paid with your adoption fee so that we can make proper arrangements for transport. Please contact us for details.
Adopting is a huge responsibility and we need to know this will be a lifelong commitment to the animal. Paws of Tomorrow, Inc. will only consider adoption to FOREVER homes. It is also mandatory that if for any reason you cannot keep the dog at anytime, the dog must be returned TO US. If we find that you have not honored this, legal charges will be filed. The application/contract you sign explains all of this also. We do not tolerate any of our dogs going back to a shelter. We do not rescue them from high kill shelters for them to end up back where they started. We take this oath seriously and expect all our adopters to do the same. Adopting should be a lifelong commitment and rewarding experience!
Also, please remember that the fosters and volunteers of this rescue have been a big part of this animals life. We would love to have updates from you as the dogs settles in. It really does mean the world to all of us.
Please join us at one of our upcoming events. If you would like to meet a specific dog at one of our events, contact us so that we can make proper arrangements. Please note: You must have an approved application prior to this event to take the dog home with you. So please consider submitting an application on your favorite dog if you would like to take them home from one of our events. We will have applications available at our events for you to complete. However, we must process the application before the adoption can be completed.
