Paws of Tomorrow animal rescue is based out of the Ocean View, DE area. We are a rescue that works with shelters to help save urgent dogs on death row. All individuals that work for our rescue are volunteers and do this solely to help these animals find homes. Our rescue pulls dogs from high kill and gassing shelters in DE, OH, WV, NC, and VA; as well as helping the injured and abandoned animals here in the ocean view area. Give us your toss aways and we will help change lives. We take pride in knowing that we are not only helping these animals but also helping you find the perfect pet for your home.
We are a 501c3 federally recognized non-profit animal rescue, which means that all donations are fully tax deductible. We accept these donations to offset the costs of our rescue. Our vetting bills alone are thousands of dollars each month. However, we can only pull dogs if we have the funding to do so. It would be irresponsible of us to pull an animal if we could not offer proper medical care so your donations are a necessity.
Most people are unaware of what "really" goes on in shelters across the United States. Our goal is to raise this awareness. Many shelters are high kill shelters, mostly due to lack of financing, lack of volunteers, and lack of space. A large percentage of these shelters are gassing shelters. This means that the animals are placed in a gas chamber to be euthanized. This caused these dogs extreme pain. You can read more about this on the “Gas Chamber” web page. Anything you do to help whether it is to spread the word, donate, foster, or adopt; is helping save one life at a time. To one pet it means, "the world.”
The dogs/cats listed throughout our site are in urgent need of medical care when they come to us and need sponsorship to help with these costs. They receive no vet care until we take them our of the shelter and offer this to them. Please understand that these dogs/cats have had a hard life and will need someone to work with them. Most are very, very grateful and are easy to train. We do not accept aggressive dogs but some may be a little scared. These dogs go through a lot when they end up in a shelter, so we are sure you can understand why they would be scared. The dogs listed on our "URGENT" page are usually still in the shelter and need our help getting out. These are all dogs that we have temperament tested and feel are sweet dogs. Please let us know if you could foster or sponsor one of these dogs.
If you wish to foster a dog/cat, please fill out our foster application on our application page. We will then contact you to discuss which dog will be right for your home. We have SO MANY dogs and cats that are in URGENT need of foster homes each week. You can request to foster a specific dog that appears on our "needs foster" page. However, we have MANY dogs each week that we could pull if we had a foster home available. Please consider being an open foster for one of our animals. You can specify the size, color, breed, etc that you prefer and we will discuss what we have that meets your request. We cover all vetting fees. If you are interested in fostering a specific dog/cat, please notify us right away for details. Remember that our URGENT dogs may not have a lot of time and are still facing euthanasia if we do not help them quickly.
In order to adopt one of our lovely dogs/cats an adoption application is required. Please see our adoption page to learn more information on adoption. You will not be considered until an application is received by us. Once we receive and have approved your application, you will be notified of approval or disapproval with a reason. If approved, you will need to send the specified adoption funds for this dog via PayPal. Please look at the specific dog you are interested in for the adoption fee. The fees vary by the vetting required, transport, and shelter fees for each pet. These fees are non-negotiable. It is an "Adoption Fee" and is solely for the adoption of this animal. We try to fully vet each dog but this is not guaranteed by paying the adoption fee.
Paws of Tomorrow will adopt our loving pets to any area in the US and can provide transport of your new family member to most areas. Please be aware that transport does require an extra charge. Please contact us for details.
Adopting is a huge responsibility and we need to know this will be a lifelong commitment to the animal. Paws of Tomorrow, Inc. will only consider adoption to FOREVER homes. It is also mandatory that if for any reason you cannot keep the pet at anytime, the animal must be returned TO US. If we find that you have not honored this, legal charges will be filed. The application/contract you sign explains all of this also. We do not tolerate any of our dogs going back to a shelter. We do not rescue them from high kill shelters for them to end up back where they started. We take this oath seriously and expect all our adopters to do the same. Adopting should be a lifelong commitment and rewarding experience!
